An interesting day at the salon.

I've been really busy working on other projects and traveling so I haven't posted anything in quite awhile. I was just browsing through some old shoots and stumbled up this image of Chanon from a shoot for Arsenic Magazine in Beverly Hills a few years ago. I'm moving back to LA in two weeks so I hope to shoot more while I'm there.

I was in LA the past two weekends to meet up with my good friend Gabriella who was visiting from Hungary. She and I have known each other for a few years and try to meet up whenever she's in LA. We've shot together a few times in the past and from our first meeting we've thrown around the idea of doing some sort of road trip project together in Europe. Recently I've been talking to a friend of mine at a production house based in Silverlake and we've been trying to develop this idea a bit more. This past Friday the three of us were able to meet while Gaby was in town and he gave us a homework assignment which was for us to shoot a bit of random content of ourselves that can be used to help put the pitch together. Since we didn't have a whole lot of time to do something cool before Gaby left town we decided to throw a GoPro in the car while driving around LA to show us interacting with one another. I'll shoot some more content of myself over the next month that will show some behind the scenes stuff at a photo shoot, content of an ammo project in Nevada and South Africa, and a wine project I'm working on up in Santa Barbara County. Gabriella will shoot a bit of content back home in Budapest and then we'll throw together a little 3 minute reel.
In West Hollywood on our way to Urth Caffé for some boba.
Wearing eyewear provided by our good friends at William Painter.
I was able to snap a few shots with the models sporting the very awesome William Painter's during yesterday's shoot for Arsenic Magazine.

I was in LA yesterday taking photos for Arsenic Magazine's "Spring Fling" photo shoot. This shoot was more fun than usual because my good friend/photographer Janet Vuong was hanging out on set shooting some behind the scenes stuff. She also let me borrow her Nikon D800 and play around with some of her lenses as well. I'm definitely feeling the need to upgrade soon. Here are some of the behind the scenes shots, I was able to snap a few of Janet as well.

You can learn a thing or two from my friend Alyssa Smith:
Alyssa Smith and I met last summer on a shoot we were doing for Arsenic Magazine. We got together a few months later at her place in Los Angeles and shot some stuff for fun, here's one of the images from that day in September 2013.

I was just browsing through one of my drives and saw these random pictures of Jana a.k.a. Eufrat that I never published anywhere. This shoot took place in March of 2011.
Here's a random selection from the shoot I did with Arsenic Magazine yesterday:
Awhile back Lowepro sent me some gear and one of the items they sent was a Lowepro Nova Sport 35L AW. I'm currently in San Diego loading up my Nova Sport now for a shoot tomorrow in LA. I'll be doing some furniture shots for Furniture Porn followed up by some fashion work with models Kate Compton, Danielle Ruiz and Mina Doll for Arsenic Magazine. I've been out of town a lot over the past few months and this bag just got back from traveling with me through California, Peru, Chile and Argentina and really made traveling with camera gear much easier. I fly a lot and definitely recommend this bag to anyone else that travels with camera gear. The built in rain cover really came in handy while I was rolling my suitcase (with the Nova Sport secured to the top) through the streets of Buenos Aires. On the way down to Buenos Aires from Los Angeles I was able to fit my Nikon D7000 + 4 Nikon lenses (12-24mm f/4G | 35mm f/1.8G | 50mm f/1.8G | 55-200mm), a Canon 6D + 3 Sigma lenses (18-35mm f/1.8 | 50mm f/1.4 | 50-150mm f/2.8), Nikon SB-600 Speedlight, a Macbook Air and a bunch of filters and accessories.
I was on Facebook the other day and saw my friend Mike post this time lapse video done by photographer Colin Rich. I watched this and was pretty blow away, check it out:

It was an nightly adventure that took me to almost every angle of Los Angeles. It was an exercise in patience. A lesson in light. An understanding of what it is to live amongst each other and to understand the system and order of a city, the seemingly complex organics that make it up and the life form that the city truly is. A visualization of sonder. It was a daily jaunt to watch the arterial freeway systems pump car cells through its body and channel them to the capillaric avenues that are our neighborhoods and homes. It was a chance to break away from the 70mph freeway perspective and to observe the sun slip from view and watch the electric dance of nightfall begin. It was challenging. It was frustrating. Definitely dangerous at times. Sometimes it hurt. I was chased. Yelled at. Warned. But the overall context of things learned, people met, things seen, and places discovered over the past three years shaped who I am today. I didn't always love Los Angeles but I learned to and discovered that this city is much more than temperate weather, palm trees, pretty girls, and beaches; to me the true beauty behind the city lies hidden on the other end of a rusted fire escape to a view no one else has seen. I'm looking forward to the next chapter of my film making career where I will be concentrating on narrative and documentary films. Thanks for watching, reading, and supporting my films. Cheers, Colin I will be running a limited series of high quality Kodak Endura VC metallic prints based on each series of shots. I'm finally heading back to San Diego from Argentina, I'm a week late and not that excited about going home, but it's time. I've been sitting here at the airport in Santiago, Chile for 7 hours already and have almost 2 hours left before being able to board the flight from here to LA where a friend of mine will pick me up at 6:40AM to drive me back to San Diego. 10 hour flight ahead . . . I have shoots lined up in LA just after the New Years and then I'll be working with my band while putting together a plan to go back to Argentina.
Well I've managed to get myself stranded in Argentina for an additional week, but that's not a bad thing. With this extra time here I was able to spend time collaborating with my good friends Tomy and Pali from Tuco Studios. We met the last time I was in Buenos Aires back in 2011 and have been talking about trying to work on some stuff together ever since. We have some cool new projects in the works and the other night I was hanging out with Tomy and he started bring new life to some photos I took awhile back and have done much with. Here's a sample of what's to come, the model is the beautiful Eufrat from Prague and the shoot took place in Los Angeles back in 2011.
